July 6, 2008 South Florida Dive Headquarters Coral Princess Pompano Beach
Sometimes a plan just comes together.... 14 of us dove with South Florida Diving Headquarters, http://www.southfloridadiving.com, on Sunday morning, July 6. A great way to end the July 4 weekend. Captain Dick, DiveMaster Holly (we tried to dive with Robert Shearer, but that part of the plan just didn't come off) and the Coral Princess were great. What made it particularly nice was that the Princess holds 35, but it was our 14 divers with just 4 more. Just 18 divers on a boat that holds almost twice that amount makes for real comfort and ease of movement. The weather was magnificent. A warm, but not blistering hot, morning. Water at 83 degrees, no current to speak of, and calm seas. And the visibility was superb.

Our first dive was on the Tracey (also known as the Ken Vitale in honor of a very well liked instructor). The Tracey is a great wreck. Like many of the wrecks in South Florida, the decks (and parts of the sides) are broken out allowing easy and safe access (and crawling with critters). My log had me at 43 minutes dive time at 78' max depth...a great first dive.
Our second dive was on Lighthouse Ledge. We dove this site as our second dive on our June dive, but the viz was just fair and the current was ripping in June. Many of our divers enjoyed this site back in June, but wanted to try it under better conditions. The Lighthouse Ledge was everything we hoped for. (I was under for 50 minutes at a max of 64'). Great viz, tons of fish (and eels and a turtle) made for an excellent second dive.
We all (yes, all 14 of us, even me) had lunch at Big Louie's which made it a great end to a great day.
We have our August dive scheduled with the Starfish (still 1 slot open as of this writing) and will be making plans for our September dive shortly. Let me know if you have any suggestions for the September dive.
Thanks for all the support.
